Scorpius (Scorpion)

The shape of the scorpion shape can easily be spotted in this wonderful constellation. According to the ancient myth, this constellation represents the scorpion, that killed the hunter Orion with a sting. Even today, Orion is still running away from the Scorpion: the constellation of Orion is setting in the west when Scorpius is rising in the east.
 
The Scorpion is a magnificent constellation of the zodiac. Its shape is very distinct and hence it is easy to find. It lies in a densely populated region of our Milky Way galaxy, and it is filled with fantastic astronomical observing objects. Even with binoculars, it is a joy to look at the Scorpion with the beauty of the Milky Way.
This constellation belongs to the zodiac. Its time of the year is between October 24 and November 22. This constellation does not belong to the zodiac. It's brightest star is Antares (α Scorpii).
